Most brand partnerships start with a briefing. Someone explains their audience to us, we ask questions, and we spend a few weeks learning a culture from the outside before we’re confident enough to design for it.
This one skipped that part. We’ve been playing DOTA 2 and Counter-Strike for years. When Lenovo Legion came to us about their Gen 11 campaign, there was no world to learn, we were already living in it.
The result is a limited-edition TEQ63 built with a Legion identity, revealed on September 6 at SuperManila Comic Con.
Designing for People Who Already Have Taste
Gamers are a hard audience to fake your way into. They can spot a brand borrowing their aesthetic without understanding it, and they’re not shy about saying so. Which is why the personal overlap mattered more than usual here.
The brief we set for ourselves was narrow: the piece has to read as unmistakably TEQ63 and unmistakably Legion, at a glance, from across a room. Not TEQ63 wearing a logo. Not a generic gaming figure with our helmet on it.
As we said during the reveal, the goal was for it to still feel distinctly Quiccs while carrying a Legion identity gamers connect with immediately.
Why the Packaging Got Equal Attention
The box isn’t an afterthought on a collectible — for a lot of buyers it never gets opened. So the custom packaging had to do the same double duty as the figure itself, holding both identities without one swallowing the other.
That’s usually where these collaborations quietly fail. The figure gets all the design attention and the box gets a logo slapped on it, and the whole thing reads as merch instead of a piece.
SuperManila Comic Con
The reveal happened during Legion’s stage program at SuperManila, where we joined Charlotte Koa, Lenovo’s Consumer Business Lead, for a panel hosted by Gino Quillamor to walk through how the design came together.
After the panel, we were at the Legion booth for meet-and-greets — Legion came in as a Platinum exhibitor, so there were devices on the floor for people to try alongside the collectible.
The Part That’s Actually Interesting
Koa framed it well on the panel: gaming culture isn’t confined to what’s on screen. It’s shaped by community, creativity, and what people are into when they’re not playing.
That’s the space this piece lives in. Not a promotional object attached to a laptop, but something that belongs on the same shelf as the rest of a collection — which is the only version of this that a collector or a gamer takes seriously.
